Henley Royal Regatta 2013 – a seated picnic for 10 guests in Lion’s Meadow.

As the boss of deWintons I still love to entertain my friends and family, what better way than down by the river in Henley-on-Thames.  With the help of my husband, we set up a beautiful outdoor picnic, with seating for 10, a table dressed with a vibrant bright pink table cloth, luxurious linen napkins, spiral champagne flutes, a full set of silver cutlery with chic white china plates.

We started with crisp glasses of chilled Veuve Cliquot,  always a winner, followed by a classic English picnic with home-made spiced chicken with moist slithers of apricots, lightly toasted flaked almonds, sprinkled with fresh coriander leaves, just delicious. Friends had helped out by bringing the most delicious giant sized cous cous with chick peas, roasted red and yellow peppers,  plus we had a very interesting salad with lush summer leaves, perfectly ripe avocado, broad beans, crab and cucumber.  We certainly all sat down to a mouth watering feast on one of the hottest days of the year, luckily I’d packed our pop up gazebo to keep the sun’s rays off us.

Now what picnic is complete until you’ve served the pudding, British strawberries at their best, with thick double cream and crisp meringues, who could ask for a more satisfying meal?
